Dr Judith Boswell is a Director of Adelaide Hearing Consultants. She is a Clinically-Certified Audiologist and Fellow of the Audiological Society of Australia. Judith qualified initially as a Speech Pathologist and practised this profession for a time before pursuing studies in Audiology, in Melbourne and in Seattle (Washington).

Judith has been involved with Indigenous hearing issues for some years. From 1989, she was employed as Research Audiologist with the Menzies School of Health Research in Darwin. During her five years there, she undertook research into middle ear infection and hearing loss in Indigenous Australians. She received her PhD from the University of Sydney for her research work with Aboriginal infants in 1994 and was awarded a University prize for her thesis.

Judith first came to Adelaide in 1994. During her employment at the Flinders University of South Australia, Judith helped plan and then co-ordinated the first Master in Audiology course to be offered in South Australia.

In 1999-2000, Indigenous health called again and Judith left Adelaide to manage the Ear, Nose and Throat Outreach Project, based in Cairns. This pilot Project delivered surgical and audiological services and training to remote Indigenous communities in Cape York, the Gulf of Carpentaria and the Torres Strait.

In 2000, Judith returned to Adelaide to manage a private audiological consultancy and clinical practice – Adelaide Hearing Consultants (AHC). In mid-2007, AHC merged with David May Audiology to provide an independent audiology service with offices in Adelaide city centre and Glenelg North.

In 2001, AHC was awarded a contract by the SA government to provide free information, advice and referral services for people with tinnitus, under the banner ‘Tinnitus SA’. This is the first such service in the country and it attracts over 600 client inquiries each year. Judith also provides tinnitus therapy to individuals via AHC, including Tinnitus Retraining Therapy and the Neuromonics Tinnitus Desensitisation Protocol.
Judith continues her involvement in Indigenous ear health issues, primarily by providing regular ear and hearing health training to personnel from remote communities in NSW, the NT and WA.
